DIY Necklace Organizer Tutorial

Create your own Necklace holder with scrap pieces of wood.

Do you find yourself constantly un-tangling your necklaces from a giant wod of frustration? Same girl, same. No matter how many times I untangle these bad boys, they always end up in a ball. Below I will show you how to organize your necklaces so you, hopefully, never have to untangle them again.

I am in the process of turning a desk in to vanity, and I knew I wanted to incorporate some type of jewelry organizer. I had some leftover 1×3 and 1×2’s from my Board and Batten project (coming soon to the blog), and thought it would be perfect to add some hooks and hang my necklaces from.

First, measure and cut your wood to the size you desire- mine was 16 inches. Then I sanded down the boards because it is easier to sand the boards before they are attached together. I took the 1×3 and screwed 4 pilot holes in the back so I did not split the wood when adding the 1×2. Then screw in the 1×2 to make a “shelf”.

On the 1×3, I measured 1 inch from the edge and drilled every 1 inch. On the 1×2, I measured 1/2 inch from the end, and then drilled every 1 inch. I wanted to make sure there was a “window” for each necklace to make it easier to grab them from the hook.

I added wood filler to the cracks and seams so it looked like one consistent piece. Once that was dry, I lightly sanded the wood filler smooth, and added some stain.

When that dried, I screwed in the hooks that I ordered off of Amazon, into the pilot holes.

Then, add your necklaces! I didn’t realize how many necklaces I had being held together by a paper clip… Good time for some Spring Cleaning!
