    DIY Necklace Organizer Tutorial

Create your own Necklace holder with scrap pieces of wood. Do you find yourself constantly un-tangling your necklaces from a giant wod of frustration? Same girl, same. No matter how many times I untangle these bad boys, they always end up in a ball. Below I will show you how to organize your necklaces so you, hopefully, never have to untangle them again. I am in the process of turning a desk in to vanity, and I knew I wanted to incorporate some type of jewelry organizer. I had some leftover 1×3 and 1×2’s from my Board and Batten project (coming soon to the blog), and thought it would be…

Painting your Front Door & How to Choose the Best Color

Paint your front door without removing it from its hinges! With it starting to feel like Spring outside in Massachusetts, I thought it was time to focus on some of my outdoor projects. First things first, Painting the front door! Our whole house is white, including the front door, so I knew I needed something to break it up. I remembered reading an article while I was picking out indoor paint, on how a black door can increase your house value, and it’s been stuck in my head ever since. The shutters on out house are black, so I decided to just go for it. I chose Sherwin Williams Tricorn…

    DIY CURTAIN ROD

Our main living room has a large bay window that is the focal point of the room (besides my beautiful White Washed Fireplace), so I knew I needed something bold for the curtain rod. When I was shopping for a 10 foot long curtain rod, I was SHOCKED at the prices. I couldn’t believe how much a curtain rod would cost. Here is where my DIY brain kicks in- I’ll just make my own! I knew I wanted a natural wood look, similar to Restoration Hardware curtain rods, so I went to Home Depot for probably the third time that day, and got some supplies. I picked up a Pine…

HOW TO PAINT YOUR BATHROOM TUB AND TILE

Can’t afford to completely renovate your bathroom, but still looking to modernize it? Our 1970’s bathroom was just that- 70’s. It was pink (Pepto Bismol Pink), with brown trim and outdated appliances. It was not in our budget to completely renovate the bathroom, and the tiles and tub were still in great condition. My father-in-law introduced me to the idea of painting it using Rustoleum Tub & Tile Refinishing Kit in Gloss White. I ordered it online at Home Depot and picked it up in store because it is not kept in store. So I did my due diligence in researching and watching videos and felt prepared to tackle this…

    RE-PURPOSE THOSE OLD BOOKS

Quick and Easy DIY trick with supplies you probably have in your own home! Do you have a bookcase of old books that you have no use for anymore? Rather than donating them (or letting them collect dust), why not re-purpose them and use them as decoration? Or gift them as a nice holiday gift by adding a stamped phrase. I had 3 books that I decided I was going to try this on. I looked for some that were different sizes and had different page colors, to add some dimension. Simply, remove the cover from the book, and a few pages to get to the title page, or a…

HOW TO WHITE WASH YOUR BRICK FIREPLACE

The first project I tackled in the new house was the fireplace. I had been toying with different ideas- painting it, covering it, leaving it as is, german smear, or whitewash. Whitewashing seemed the most difficult, but I knew that was the look I was going for. So I did my research on the blogs, and decided to go for it. That’s the fun part about diy. You try it, and if it doesnt work out, just cover it up with something else! STEP 1: Thoroughly clean the fireplace, especially in between the bricks. I used a wire brush from Home Depot and scrubbed off all the dirt and dust…

    ABOUT ME!

Hi fellow DIY-ers, I’m Jillian! I am transforming my 70’s split level house one gallon of paint at a time! We bought our first home in August of 2019, and boy, did it need some love. Our original plan was to live in it for a few months and then slowly make some cosmetic changes. Well, that didn’t happen. We went right to work with taking down walls, refinishing the kitchen, and completely gutting the bathroom. The whole house was covered in 70’s inspired wallpaper and pink shag rugs. Yuck! The day we closed on the house, we started taking down wallpaper- that was my least favorite part of the…
